Lexicon MC12EQ Processor: MC-12B EQ
THX Ultra 2: 12 Channel Digital AV Controller. V5 With Room EQ. Lexicon LIVE! Price: £8995

The new MC-12B V5EQ is a powerful tool that allows the user to find and correct for problematic low frequencies in the listening space, yet is easy to operate and requires only a small amount of user interaction to achieve superior results.

Version 5.0 EQ continues Lexicon’s improvement programme. Retaining all elements of V4EQ software V5 adds in a newly designed implementation of Logic 7 moving the MC-12 still further ahead of the competition. Finally is the unique Lexicon LIVE! system. When used in conjunction with the optional AKG studio microphone kit Lexicon LIVE! is able to create an expansive soundstage when live vocalists or musicians are performing within the listening room. Both Room EQ and LIVE! require the optional AKG microphone kit.

Designed by Lexicon’s Chief Scientist, Dr. David Griesinger, and Dr. James Muller, the V5 EQ is a ground-breaking room equalization tool, which doubles the amount of processing available to the MC-12B, and provides up to seven filters per channel for up to ten output channels. Four microphones, designed to meet Lexicon’s stringent requirements for room analysis, enable optimisation for the entire listening area. V5 EQ uses thorough and advanced room analysis techniques and is completely integrated with existing processing so that no additional A/D/A conversion is required.

Lexicon’s MC-12B V5 EQ is capable of identifying problem frequencies to within 0.732Hz – 10 times more precise than a graphic EQ at the low frequencies under consideration. It requires an enormous amount of processing power so that detailed correction can be applied to all channels: seven filters for each of the seven main channel outputs and three subwoofer outputs. The additional DSP ensures that the best results can be obtained for all of the speakers in the system.

V5 Room EQ Technology

Lexicon takes an approach to solving the problems of room equalization that delivers better results than traditional methods, which simply attempt to flatten the frequency response of the listening room.

Lexicon’s V5 EQ algorithm measures the decay times of the room resonance modes and prioritises those with long decay times as being the most important to correct. This approach has far more impact on the audio experience than merely flattening the frequency response. Another benefit of using this method is that the long decay times occur throughout the room; correcting them for one listening position also fixes them for others, resulting in a more uniform experience from seat to seat.

Unlike other EQ solutions, V5 EQ utilizes four microphones, allowing detection of room modes that would be missed by systems that employ only a single microphone. Using four microphones also provides improved accuracy resulting from correlated measurements. Lexicon Microphone Kit purchased separately.

V5 Room EQ can be purchased as an upgrade to existing MC12 controllers. Please note that if not installed, V3.0 firmware and software must be fitted. A Lexicon Microphone Kit is also required, ask you dealer for details.
